Shannon is exceptional at building a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients as she feels it is the foundation of the healing process. Her unconditional positive regard for people is what she gives to her clients as well as in her personal life. Regardless of what a client says or does, she provides comfort and acceptance so they may feel free to express their thoughts and feelings – this helps to accomplish a meaningful and affective therapeutic relationship.
Shannon realizes none of us are just like anyone else and understands that every client’s needs are different and modifies her approach depending on the client’s identified needs. Shannon uses various therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal, family systems, and existential therapy.
Shannon provides counseling services to adolescents, adults, families, couples and seniors. Her experience ranges from, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, self-esteem (self-acceptance), emotional abuse, trauma awareness, grief and life transitions. Shannon is also a LGBTQ friendly therapist and has had experience counseling clients within this community.
Shannon has 7 years of experience in the mental health field and has facilitated individual and group therapy for truant, and fostered teenagers, adult substance abuse, family violence, and for patients with severe mental disorders. She has also continued her education and training in the areas of Crisis Intervention, Psychological First Aid, Substance Abuse, Mild TBI and PTSD, Suicide Prevention, and Therapeutic Boundaries. Shannon enjoys working with couples and has completed level one of the Gottman Method of couple’s therapy. In addition to applying many of the theories and techniques from this training, she also incorporates Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) when working with couples.
Shannon has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio – a CACREP accredited program. Shannon is a National Certified Counselor and is also a member of the Chi Sigma Iota which is the international honor society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors. She is currently a Florida State Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern.
Shannon is a coffee lover. In her free time – she enjoys walking her dogs, playing golf, shopping, and spending time with her family.
