Paula provides counseling in English and Spanish and uses a holistic approach to therapy in which she incorporates different therapeutic theories to meet the diverse needs of children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Paula works to establish a therapeutic counseling relationship with her clients and to foster a safe and supportive environment in which healing can begin and change can be achieved. Paula believes that all people have strengths and unique characteristics that define them. However, sometimes our greatest strengths can be overshadowed by life’s challenges. Therefore as a therapist, Paula works to help people to reconnect with their unique traits and abilities to overcome life’s speed bumps while finding the appropriate tools to heal from old wounds.
In order to build a therapeutic relationship and a safe and supportive environment, Paula invests in the establishment of mutually agreed upon therapeutic goals. Further, Paula works to hear and understand her clients’ unique experiences in order to validate them and foster insight and awareness. Paula believes in teamwork and working to develop skills that will support a successful life journey. Paula has worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, and a variety of other issues.
Paula has received additional experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in home and school settings. She has completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method couples therapy and regularly uses it in her work. Paula also attends Psychoanalysis seminars as a means of continuing her education and being able to provide the most appropriate evidence based practices.
Paula graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She continued her education at UCF and completed her Masters Degree in Social Work. During her journey through the Masters program, Paula completed an internship at Orlando Regional Medical Center where she worked primarily with older adults who suffered from congestive heart failure. She then moved on to work with children and adolescents at Gateway School, where she focused on emotional and behavioral challenges. Paula is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida.
In her time off, Paula enjoys spending time with her family. She has a large family and finds her time with them helps her relax and unwind. Paula understands the importance of self-care and makes sure to do things she enjoys such as exercising and any activity that includes the sun and being in the water.
