Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Allison has over five years of intensive experience working within the mental health field. She is extremely passionate about working with people of all ages. Allison worked with children as young as three years old up to adolescents, adults, and seniors in a variety of mental health settings. These settings include state psychiatric hospitals, correctional institutions, group homes, communities, school systems and outpatient long-term care facilities as well as short-term care facilities.
Allison has provided counseling services to individuals, couples, and families as well as led groups all within diverse populations who are faced with hardships. She has experience in treating a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health conditions. Allison also has experience working with trauma, substance abuse, emotional and/or behavioral issues along with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as adjusting to the challenges of life’s transitions.
Allison enjoys helping and working with individuals to overcome weaknesses as they embrace themselves building upon their strengths. Allison believes the client is the main focus as she uses a Person-Centered Approach, providing guidance to help empower as well as motivate clients as they gain insight into their condition. Allison also uses a Brief Solution Focused therapy Approach, providing the client with realistic ways to improve their condition as she provides a safe and therapeutic environment for them to process through their situations. Additionally, she frequently uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Art Therapy. Allison has gained many years of experience and regularly continues her education to stay current with the newest and most effective techniques and approaches to therapy. When appropriate, she also enjoys using an eclectic approach to treatment because every human being is uniquely special!
Allison truly believes in using variations of theories and techniques to help meet each person where they are at in their journey of life. She offers support and guidance treating each person with respect and dignity with an open mind, and free of judgment. Allison understands that we are all human beings and special in our own way! She is a LGBTQ+ friendly therapist.
Allison’s educational background includes a Master of Science degree in Art Therapy from Florida State University. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in printmaking from Ringling College of Art and Design. During her education, Allison was accepted into an intensive international fine arts program and was able to study abroad, embracing a new cultural experience. She has also attended conferences and numerous workshops as well as volunteered her time for continued education. Allison completed the following trainings for DCF, Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) for Suicide Prevention and Verbal De-escalation. She has completed level one of the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and enjoys incorporating these theories when working with couples.
Allison is now working towards her licensure to be a Board Certified Art Therapist. She is currently a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the state of Florida. She has completed all of her post graduate supervision hours and is in the final stage of becoming a licensed counselor.
During her free time, Allison loves adventuring to new places. She enjoys spending time with her support systems and loves to do activities in relation to self-care. Allison has a passion to be creative and enjoys learning and gaining new knowledge.
