Shellie views the therapeutic process as a collaborative effort between the therapist, the individual, and the larger relational system. As a marriage and family therapist she works from a strengths-based, relational approach and believes that in every individual, couple, and family is the capacity for meaningful change. Shellie brings an accepting and hopeful approach to the therapeutic process and strives to provide individualized care to each of her clients. She is also a LGBTQ friendly therapist.
Shellie provides therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has experience working with children in the public-school system where she provided individual and group therapy. She has also worked in a community mental health agency where she treated at-risk families and individuals. Shellie has extensive experience treating ADHD, behavioral issues, anxiety, depression, life changes, adolescent substance abuse, trauma, grief, as well as couple and family issues. She has completed level one of the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy and frequently includes these theories and techniques during therapy sessions.
Shellie enjoys utilizing a variety of treatment approaches and techniques to provide the most effective care possible for her clients. She often uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as family and relational approaches including Structural Family Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. When working with children, Shellie utilizes a variety of play therapy techniques to promote a calm and engaging therapeutic experience. Shellie has received specific training in Trauma-Focused CBT and is certified in Best Practices for Preventing Sexual Harm.
Shellie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Utah. She received her Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University and is a member of the Delta Kappa Marriage and Family Honor Society. Shellie is currently serving as the Elections Chair for the Central Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in the state of Florida. She has already passed her licensure exam for the state of Florida and is just finishing up her post graduate hours.
When away from the office, Shellie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and baking. She also enjoys traveling and experiencing different places and cultures.
