Me, Myself and I

As a therapist, it is important for me to encourage my clients to feel better about themselves. I remind them that they all possess the ability to feel powerful, in control and stronger than ever. Yes, my education, training and skills guide me in helping my clients, but I truly believe the power to heal often begins within each of us.

We all tend to get busy with life and forget that there is a me, myself and I, who needs to be taken care of first. About a year ago my mother introduced me to the well renowned author Louise Hay, who wrote this amazing and powerful book called  You Can Heal Your Life. I read this book cover to cover and found out how amazing our inner strength can be. Hay begins her book with this quote, You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds…Claim and consciously use your power. I begin my day with this same affirmation.

Many of my clients who struggle with low self-esteem feel discouraged and drained. By spending so much time focusing on the negative things in life, they forget that there is room for the positive. We must  learn to listen to ourselves and remember that our inner voice is just as important as the information we take in from outside sources. This is where positive affirmations can help. You may be wondering, “What is an affirmation, and how can it help me?” My answer to this is fairly simple; it is your inner voice cheering you on…that sometimes does not get heard.

Louise Hay teaches the importance of daily affirmations. She explains how replacing a negative thought can help change how we think and feel so that we can change our decisions and actions. Hay states that, “an  affirmation is a positive statement you say or think about yourself.  Saying daily affirmations helps reprogram our negative self-talk so we can manifest more positive thinking, feeling and experiences in our lives.”

Here are some examples of positive affirmations from Louise Hay:

Love: “Love is the great miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our lives.”

Self-Worth: “I am willing to release the need to be unworthy. I am worthy of the very best in life, and I now lovingly allow myself to accept it.”

Negative thoughts: “Every thought we think is creating our future.”

Abundance: I will love myself, because it all begins with me.”

Being grateful: “I have noticed the Universe loves Gratitude. The more Grateful you are the more goodies you receive.”

These are just some examples of positive affirmations/quotes that Louise Hay has created to help in different areas of our lives ranging from love, to negative thoughts, and much more. You can begin to formulate a list of areas you would like to improve in your life and create corresponding positive affirmations. Start your day with these daily affirmations to remind yourself that you can be the change that you want to see. Your mental attitude can help change your thoughts, emotions, and actions.
