Reaching for Impossible
From my previous Blog…
Forget Perfection and Embrace your Accomplishments.
Perfection is simply unattainable. Let it go. You will never be perfect. This is simply an artificial creation of our society. It doesn’t exist. Instead, focus on all of the accomplishments in your life, both big and small.
Setting realistic goals may help us to improve ourselves and can be a very good way to stay motivated to do well. However, reaching for perfection is counterproductive, because perfection is simply unattainable. Perfection should not be the goal in your daily life, or you will always feel like a failure. Instead, be proud of the accomplishments you do make, and only strive to be a better version of you, not perfect.
So what CAN we do to try to improve ourselves? Here are 5 goals to strive for every day. Master these, and you will undoubtedly notice great improvements not only in your self-esteem, but also your ability to succeed in every aspect of your life.
- Stop being so self-critical.
- Don’t think about the past.
- Be positive about the future.
- Have fun.
- Smile and laugh out loud!
Rather than being critical of yourself, make the choice to be proud of your accomplishments. Once you learn to truly appreciate yourself, you will be able to make attainable and realistic goals that will eventually lead to great victories. If we are our own worst critics, we will never accomplish new goals. Let go of critical thinking and the mistakes from the past, and the future will be a much brighter place.
Look for joy in each and every moment of your day, and find the fun in each experience. The joy and fun are there, if you look for them in the right places. Sometimes it is just a matter of reframing how you look at your current situation.
Lastly, smile and laugh at every opportunity you get. Even if you don’t feel like smiling, do it anyway! There is a biological connection between smiling and happiness in each and every one of us that has been widely researched. Essentially if we smile (even if we don’t feel happy), the muscle movement of the smile will trick our bodies into changing a bad mood to a good one. Ultimately the choice is ours. Choose joy, and the rest will follow.
