Just Keep Swimming—The Personal Side

If you have ever found yourself without hope, it is a very dark place. As a therapist, I would love to say that I have never been without hope, but that just is not true. If I am honest, there have been moments when I have thought, “I have no idea how this is going to work out.”  I have also thought, “How am I going to be able to keep doing this?” The “this” has been many things, including health struggles, raising children and running a business just to name a few.

Thankfully, my feelings of hopelessness have never taken up residence. My feelings of sadness have not stayed long enough to cause me to consider self-harm or death. I can thankfully and honestly say I have never contemplated suicide.  However, I believe in a small way I can understand how people do. They must feel they are trapped and that there is no way out.

If you are feeling this way or believe you are going down a dark path, I am here to encourage you. Even when you cannot see it, hope is always there. Sometimes it takes digging deep for hope, searching for it with all of your heart or having a support person walk alongside you to help you find it. But I promise you, it is always there.

Hope and love and relationships are what keep the world going. We all need hope and love and help from each other if we are going to not only survive, but thrive in this world.
