Together We Heal

When “I” is replaced by “we,” even illness becomes wellness.  Anonymous

Emotions shared with another human being have greater healing powers than when experiencing emotions alone.  Studies show that crying in the presence of another human being has the same increased healing affect. Often children are given messages such as “boys don’t cry,”or “I’ll give you something to cry about,” or “suck it up, and get over it.” What’s really being heard is: It is not safe to feel my feelings.

These messages, typically given in childhood, shape our beliefs as we get older. If we haven’t been taught how to cope in healthy ways, we are left to try to figure things out on our own. Often it becomes easier to mask the pain, stuff it, or even ignore it. This is how unhealthy coping skills are created. As children we come up with brilliant (read: childlike)  ways to navigate through our world. However, as adults, these behaviors may no longer serve us very well. If continued, they can create chaos and negativity in our lives.

The ways in which we see the world are affected by these behaviors, and often our lives become unmanageable. While the messages we receive in childhood won’t just disappear, they can be shifted and molded in ways to create positive energy in our mind, body, and spirit.

Counseling provides you with:

  • a safe place to learn healthy ways to express yourself while receiving the connection needed to heal
  • the opportunity to learn effective ways to shift and change old belief patterns and behaviors
  • an opportunity to replace negative belief patterns and behaviors with healthy effective coping strategies.

These coping strategies will help to increase healthy connections, decrease anxiety and stress, and overall improve your daily living. If you would like to learn healthy coping strategies for effective, positive change, please contact Life Enhancement Counseling Services in Orlando today at 407-443-8862 to make an appointment with one of our therapists.
